Yesterday I participated in the event devoted to AI implementations and utilizations in Danish Media Houses. The day was very insightful, versatile and thought-provoking. It was an amazing experience to see how the industry and the rivals within try to connect to find an overall future for the industry in the AI dominated world.
AI Aided Existing Business and News Distribution Models
At the event the amazing variety of projects and initiatives were presented by the media houses. Here are the examples of AI utilizations at the exisitng business model level:
- A newspaper that wants to launch a radio channel using AI delivered news model. Their AI implementation was about launching radio voice in the AI format. A real voice was recorded and submitted to the partner for which it was processed further and reajusted for multiple use.
- One of the biggest Danish Media Houses transcribes their news distribution throughout the history of existence to learn and see, what and how people read. On top of that to have an archive that can be approached in many ways upon any need. For this type of task they would have to use around 1000 part time workers to retrieve the information prior to AI emergence.
- Another huge Dansih Media House automizes production of the articles using AI.
- A smaller local news deartment experiments with production of illustrations for their need using AI.
AI Does Not Get More Clever Than You. AI Won't Be More Creative Than You
Experiences from Danish Media Houses have shown that AI and its use will not get more clever or more creative than your own level. Like with anything else, it is you who initiates the project and AI implementation, and it is you who controls the output. It is the whole baggage of your knowledage, experience and expertise that defines, how you would want to use AI and the quality of the output you will get.

As with any other businesses one of the main conclusions was to treat AI as any other technology - it is there to aid your business towards your customer. So in this case AI implementations shall really focus on delivering news to the customers in the way customers expect it.

Danish Institute of Future Research suggested that with time the AI native models will appear in any field. For instance, a first hint towards this future can be platforms like Particle. This platform talks about liquid content and lets news, content distributors to personify an article or a piece of content towards a single user. This redefines the whole way content production can be thought of in the future.
Final Conclusion
Many companies seem to have received AI technology as their school project, which creates a lot of vibe around it. Companies shall adress AI technology as part of their business model.
Companies shall not be rushing into AI native models, as they are produced by humans and their minds anyway. Like ideas around liquid content. For instance, Big Media Houses have other responsibilities too, as they are not a candy shop.
