In this article I will discuss our ability to adapt to social environments, and the pros and cons of it for you personally and for your career path. Adaptability can be one of your biggest boxes as it is comfort-bringing. The outcomes I made are based on my own experience and selfwork.
What is Adaptability
Google defines adaptability as individual's or organisation's ability to adjust, evovle and thrive in response to various changes, challenges and evolving circumstances.
Companies shall, for sure, act like great adapters, and professionals shall adapt new skills. In this articles I will mostly focus on adaptability in our personalities.
How is Adaptability Advantageous?
To start with, it makes you a fast performer at educational environments and your first jobs. As people who are high in adaptability are as a rule easy and fast learners. So this skill of yours will be greatly advantageous at your initial stages.
Secondly, it is a great thing at social environments and makes you a pleasant personality to deal with, so you will have a pleasant social life.
How Do We Shape High Adaptabilities?
I believe, personal discouragement at some level can create highly adaptable people among those who are more mindful, responsible and social. They will develop adaptabilities as if searching for answers in other people, or not knowing what to dispay of their own to the fullest. They learn through the environments they get into.
As a result, they make great learners, even researchers as they observe people more, rather than engage with them in a totally open way.
How is Adaptability Disadvantageous?
To start with, shaping your personal style and upgrading it with new favorable elements is more challenged, as you are more used to dissolve in social environments.
Secondly, standing out and leading is more difficult for you as you fall into adaptable patterns, though you have gained magnificent knowledge and experiences.
Thirdly, great adapters as organisations and humans might be less critical thinkers and worse innovators, so you will sail with the flow by adapting patterns until there is a pitfall, new comer or a great innovator etc.
Finally, your adaptability is favoured by companies but not necessarily great for your personal choice as you will be less selective with styles and less selfish in obtaining your own personal goals. You shall by any means learn to prioritize your own career in collaboration and harmony with people around you, carefully evaluating the possibilities within given environments and changing them upon your own choice.
How to Balance Your Adabtability and Increase Other Elements in Your Personality?
I would suggest meditative techniques to start with, as they teach your mind to abstract from the content, in this case your own thoughts. So you train your mind not to dissolve and engage but rather to distance and observe, and even reshape what you see, as there are a lot of unnecessary elements from your past.
