UX & Product Creation Hub: Working in Hectic High-Paced Environments

In this article I will show you how challenging and interesting working in hectic environment can be - advantages, disadvantages, emploees as human types.

What are Hectic High-Paced Environments?

In our ever-changing world  hectic high-paced environments become a new normal. I had a pleasure to be a part of such a working environment. Constant change was a word, along with normal professional routine we had to perform and deliver under. It is an interesting and colourful world to be a part of, but it might come at some cost.

Who Are You as a Type?

  • you are strong in your subject-matter
  • you are able to make independent conclusions within your subject-matter
  • you are a fast-learner
  • you are calm by nature and high in EQ
  • you deliver results under constant change
  • you meet a change with a smile and interest
  • you have to be good at finding solutions out in the world to help you keep the pace
  • you have to be good at knowing what to outsource and what to keep in house
  • you must admit that high-pace requires collaboration for creativity with outer world

What Can High-Paced Environments Fail At?

Clarity can be a big thing, high-pace does take out visibility in situations - great if you master one. Your bosses will seldom have all the capacity a boss needs to have a dialogue with each and single employee at a level required for full clarity, so it is great if you can catch up on the missing parts of communication yourself.

Time to make agreements is another thing, therefore all the above mentioned things are highly relevant. You have to have company routine and your subject-matter at your fingertips, and knowledge of the industry.

Time to connect is scarce as everybody has a lot of things to do. You might have some of the best colleagues in the world, but you might not have a lot of time to learn them better and to come closer.

What are The Pros of Working in Hectic High-Paced Environments?

Learning curve will spike, as you will learn a lot from all the subject-matters, as such environments cannot exist without high alignment. Along with a lot of launches, initiatives under the existing setup, it will change gradually and sometimes drastically under the strategy shift. I have tried at least two big strategy shifts and under them a lot of organisational initiatives. So learning is great and uncomparable to many other settings.

No or very little time for toxic elements during your working day. It is a great advantage as people's heads are more occupied with tasks than anything else.

Making decisions including a lot of elements and parameters at a time, as hectic high-paced environments need a lot of alignment to function at all.

Your level of taste in many subject-matters will be high, as you will polish the output a lot, and learn what works and what is tacky, or how you can use tacky at a high metaphor level.

What are The Cons of Working in Hectic High-Paced Environments?

Your headspace, a favorite spot for discussion these days, might get less efficient in other contexts, as we are just humans, and where a brain can idle out it for sure will. So it can unnoticeably take toll on some other parts of your life, if you do not approach your rest time more strategic, it will be required.

I remember doing sports a lot, but what you have to reduce is amount of toxic communication in your free time, because your head will have less chance to rest and it will be overcrowded with unnecessary thinking patterns, along with the usual busy worklife. It will be great with mind boosting activities too like yoga and meditation.
