I have visited a conference with brilliant speakers, but less interesting content with some of them. It stroke me that even a masterfully structured speech will not hide a less informative content. 

Many job seekers and problem-solvers focus and get focused on things that are actually secondary to what might give them a job at the interview - their ability to solve problems along with all the experience they aquired by now. Content matters, and a more elaborate content might as well give you your next job or an interesting task.

We all know standard cooking recepies, but it is how you manage them into a specific context that counts. Your ability to transfer skills from one area to another, dynamics of one industry delivered in one way and dynamics of another with the right twist. It is how one industry can learn from another. It is how you can differentiate from your competition and stand out in the crowd of other offers. It is how you can innovate.

To have focus on your problIem-solving skills you need to know your subject-matter well. To be able to apply divergent problem-solving or increase the creativity of application in the real world you need to be on friendly terms with your subject-matter. Make sure you know the core and you upgrade your knowledge as the world evolves.  

Have a Clear View on How Your Subject-Matter Interogates with Others

To apply creative problem-solving you have to know the classics, and if you have time the history of how things evolved and created the exisiting order, as it is a great addition that will encourage your divergent problem-solving in the future. Aiding your own understanding with what encouraged the world to change prior to you is a great thing.

If you know what aids your subject-matter into great results, and what deliveries you need from your colleagues is a wonderful thing. On top of quality and relevance of your own output it creates synergy and alignment in the whole company. The more you know about the world of your colleagues the better it is, stakeholder management depends on many things. You cannot rely on the prophiciency of other people, you can only rely on your own and foster it in less mature organisations on occasion.
