Creative Hub: Increase Your Neuroplasticity to Enhance Divergent Thinking and Creativity

In this article I continue the topic of divergent thinking and its unquestionable impact on your creativitiy and unique problem-solving and approach. I started exploring divergent thinking in my article "Divergent Problem-Solving As a Key to More Interesting Jobs".

What is Neuroplasticity?

Google defines neuroplasticity as the brain's capacity to continue growing and evolving in response to life experiences. Plasticity is the capacity to be shaped, molded, or altered; neuroplasticity, then, is the ability for the brain to adapt or change over time, by creating new neurons and building new networks.

How Can You Naturally Preserve Your Neuroplasticity?

Google suggests that you have to avoid stress, alchohol and any other things that damage brain activity to keep your neuroplasticity healthy. I also suggest that you stay away from emotional abuse caused by toxic people to keep your neuroplasticity and creativity alive. You can read more about it in one  of my articles - "See with Your Mind. Systemize Your Creativity for Better Output and Return."

How Can You Enhance Your Neuroplasticity?

Google suggests a lot of strategies you can use to increase your neurplasticity like taking naps, learning new things, creating work-life balance, expanding your vocabulary and even learning to judge.

Here are some tips of my own to effectivise it even more in the way you need

Be Proactive - Create Your Own Life Stories

Do not let life just happen to you - create your own chosen stories. Even with this approach, you will encounter unexpected situations, but you will have a bigger influence on how you want to twist and evolve your own neuroplasticity.

Try Something Utterly Different from What You Have Tried Before

Make a list of everything you can and are good at, then spot some trends in the chosen paths and approaches. Based on that, find new interesting approaches or experiences you want to try out.

Watch Old Movies and Read Old Classical Books

Old movies and classical books are a great source of cultural and historical informations, apart from that you observe other ways to live and think, totally other challenges in social and political spheres as well as what people did to survive without modern conviniences and appliences.

Practice Acting and Play Reading

Acting and play reading allows you to be somebody else for a short while, you try to live life by other emotions and feelings. Use Meetup app to find a club like that close to you. I would imagine many big cities have at least one.

Learn a New Language and The Cultures That Use It

Learn a new language and the cultures that use it - it increases both your neuroplasticity and carrier opportunities as it adds a valuable skill to your CV.

See How Other People Solve the Same Problem

Google your hobby or professional challenge on Youtube and see multiple videos from different people that solve the same problem you do, attend events other companies or different groups hold.
